Chromebooks
It is expected that students follow all school policies when it comes to using their Chromebooks. Please remember that Chromebooks are the property of the school and teachers can restrict student use if students are violating these policies. Students will have to use the paper and pencil method until further notice.

Expectations:
Email: GMail
As part of middle school English class, students should be prepared to use and frequently check their email accounts. Email exchanges that occur within my class should be about assignments, questions about academics or anything related to group projects or English work in general. When writing an email to a teacher, use the following template to write your emails.

Go to the class website at danvillemsenglish.weebly.com and add it to your bookmarks. All unit materials as well as homework and reminders will be posted on this website. Explore this website now and make sure you understand how to navigate it. Planners/Reminders/Homework will always be available on the front page of the website. Please plan on using this website frequently throughout class. Practice navigating throughout this website.

GoogleDrive/GoogleDocs (App or www.drive.google.com)
Each student will have a Google Drive English folder in their Google Drive. Docs and Drive will be used for the writing of all documents in class. Students will also be expected to share documents with teachers and other students for editing and revising purposes. Google Drive is accessible at all times and saves automatically.

This Google extension is a tool students can use to cite websites. Just click on the icon and select MLA for English, APA for Science, etc. Copy and paste all parts except the Bold lettering into your works cited on essays and other assignments.

Uses: Kami will be used for annotating, writing on or marking up documents.

3. Enter any necessary information about yourself and then click Open Blank Document.
4. Generally, you will use this app to write on documents. However, right now you can just play around with the tools on the left sidebar for now.

MyHomeworkApp
Students will use some sort of planner for writing down their work but will also have the ability to use the MyHomework App. This app can remind both you and your parents about homework assignments that are upcoming. Please sign up for an account and have your parents sign up for it as well. We will explore this app further in my class as well as Mr. DeCaro’s class.

- Students will use Chromebooks and other devices only when and how they are directed to do so in the middle school.
- Students will respect their Chromebooks and not cause damage or harm to them.
- Students will make sure their computers are charged.
- Students will not play games during class time.
- Students will not be on social networking, messaging or email during class time.
- Students will not be on any inappropriate content in school.
- Students will follow all rules set forth by the technology director and the school regarding Chromebooks.

- Greet the teacher/person you are emailing: Hi/Hey/Hello Ms Settles.
- Say please and thank you. Be polite in email communication.
- Try to keep your email to a few sentences.
- Don’t send emojis to teachers, bosses, coaches, etc.
- Use appropriate language in emails.
- Write your name at the end or use a signature.
- PROOFREAD your emails for spelling, grammar, etc.

- Go to your Google Drive and create a new folder for English class. Title the folder with your name and your class period such as, “Your Name 7th English”. Then share the folder with Ms. Settles and give me editing privileges. This is where all of your English work will be created. In order to start a new document, go into the folder and create a document.
- Your assignments should be specifically named such as in, Choice Prompt #1- Your Name or Medieval Narrative Essay- Your Name and should be organized in the Google Drive English folder.
Google Sites

- Go to https://sites.google.com/a/ccsuvt.net?pli=1 and press the Create button and select New Sites.
- Name your site up at the top and on the title “Your First Name, Last Initial DMS Portfolio”. Such as in Jessica S. DMS Portfolio
- Bookmark your portfolio site.
- Share the page with your advisor and Ms. Settles.
- More work will be done on this page during advisory and class time.
